Lacey's Home

Here's a picture of Lacey (formerly Asta) who we got in October, with her seal-point Siamese sister, Mindy. We had a bit of a rocky start - Lacey had a cold when we got her, then was diagnosed with coccidia, so she couldn't be around our other animals until that was cleared up. Then she got some sort of fungal infection that we first thought was ringworm, but it wasn't. Two cultures came back negative. It wasn't until just before Christmas that she could be integrated into the family. Until then, we spent time with her every day where we kept her quarantined - a big room that I have for grooming the dogs that has nice big windows to look out and lots of toys so she didn't get too bored. We still don't know what it was. Not staph, not bacterial - nothing the vet could identify. (My husband called her our "$100 a day kitten" because of the vet bills!) Mindy has it now, but it's clearing up with Minconozole treatments. We gave up with the quarantining... So far, neither Brian nor I nor the dogs have had it. Hope it's the last we see of it.
Lacey and Mindy have a great time together. Mindy will be two in March, so they are both young enough to like to play a lot. Lacey loves to be petted and held, and likes to play with our three collies, who don't mind her chasing their tails or pouncing on their ears when they sleep near the cat tree. She also likes to share dog biscuits with them - she munches up the crumbs that fall - especially the salmon ones a friend from Seattle made for the dogs for Christmas, and drinks from their water bowls. Lacey sleeps on the bed at night (usually by my husband's feet or between his legs), and likes to perch on top of the kitty tree to watch the goings-on inside the house or the guinea fowl in the back yard during the day. Oh yes, she LOVES crumpled paper balls, and will retrieve them as long as you care to throw them. As you can see, she's a lovely cream color, and the torti points are darkening a bit, though her ears still look like lace, which is how she got her name. She's a wonderful, sweet kitten and we all love her. Would love to know how her siblings are doing - Asia and Armani.
The picture on the right is one of Lacey (Asta) sharing a dog bone with Lark, one of our smooth collies. Lacey just picks up the pieces that fall and munches on them!

Lacey (formerely Asta) has decided that everything looks better with a cat (her) as part of the decor - including the kitchen table on which she is NOT supposed to go. She's recently decided that the wooden bowl on the coffee table is there for her, and she curls up in it nearly every night when we are in the livingroom.
She's much darker than she was as a kitten; I describe her as a "tortimese snowshoe." Her eyes are a pale, ice blue. She's a very sweet, affectionate cat and we just love her and all her antics. So glad we got her!
